EGGER Biskupiec bets on rail transport - a contract with PKP SA!
We are delighted to announce that on our initiative on 22 June 2018 PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. concluded an agreement with Egger Biskupiec sp. z o.o. on the provision of good conditions for the transport of goods in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship.
Thanks to the modernisation works worth PLN 18.6 million, faster transport of goods will be ensured in the Czerwonka - Biskupiec Reszelski rail section and at the Biskupiec Reszelski station. A new railway siding of the Egger Biskupiec Factory will be connected to the revitalised infrastructure of PLK.
In the agreement, we committed to use the modernised railway line for at least 30 years, as well as to build the above-mentioned railway siding, i.e. new tracks leading from PLK line directly to the newly constructed chipboard plant in Biskupiec - Kolonia Druga. Additionally, railway crossings in Biskupiec shall be renovated.
Revitalization of about 8 km of the track between Czerwonka and Biskupiec Reszelski through PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. will ensure efficient transport of freight trains at a speed of 80 km/h. The efficiency of rail transport as an environmentally friendly and competitive means of freight transport in relation to road transport will be improved. The completion of modernisation works is planned for 2019.
The above actions are the fulfilment of the promises we have made previously to limit the transport of raw materials and finished products by the city. Thanks to this, a significant part of our deliveries and shipments will be redirected to rail transport. The planned traffic is to take place off-peak periods so as to minimise the impact on local traffic. In order to improve the traffic flow within the access to our plant, soon we will start the reconstruction of the crossroads between Mickiewicza Street and Św. Józefa Street.
