First railway transport
Last Friday, 03.07.2020, a railway siding was inaugurated at the EGGER factory in Biskupiec. The first, and therefore historic, railway transport entered our factory. This was a delivery of glue from the German EGGER Group factory in Wismar. At the same time, the inauguration of the siding was a test run for the implemented procedures and processes. Soon the plant is planning to launch a permanent supply of glue transport depots. The raw material in the form of chips and round wood will also be imported via this route. Depending on the demand and possibilities of optimizing the logistic chain, it is also planned to export finished products from the factory.
Transport by rail is possible thanks to the modernization by PLK of the railway infrastructure on the route Czerwonka - Biskupiec Reszelski, as well as the station in Biskupiec Reszelski itself. The value of the modernisation is PLN 18.6 million. The factory siding was built entirely by EGGER company. It is the first facility of this type built "from scratch" in many years in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. Its construction is an opportunity to develop local railway infrastructure. The siding will be operated by a licensed operator, who will ensure safe and efficient flow on the site.
"Sustainable development is one of the EGGER Group's priorities. Hence our focus on rail transport, which is an ecological alternative to road transport. The commissioning of the siding is the fulfillment of the promises previously made to reduce transport through the city", stressed Michał Serafin, Logistics Director/Member of the Management Board of EGGER Biskupiec Sp. z o.o. The planned railway traffic is to take place, if possible, outside rush hours, so that its impact on local traffic is as small as possible.
