The Solar Boat project, supported by EGGER, was ranked 3rd in Monaco
In May this year we informed you about our participation in the Solar Boat project carried out by a group of fifty AGH University of Science and Technology students in Krakow. Now we would like to announce that the crew taking part in the solar boat took the third place in the international competition in Monaco.
During the two months of the Solar Sport One World Championship, the AGH Solar Boat is back from Monaco with excellent results. AGH students finished the season in a great style, taking the third place in the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The outstanding results of the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge were as follows: 5th in the Fleet Race, 4th in the Slalom Race, 2nd in the One by One competition.
Baśka is an electric boat, which is fully powered by solar energy. The project involved a large number of AGH University of Science and Technology students from different faculties, specialising in specific fields. The structure made of carbon composite technology has been prepared taking into account the harsh marine conditions.
During the exciting struggle, the fight takes place not only on the water, but also in the workshop. Every detail has been important in the competition on the high seas. Fortunately, the excellent preparation of the team and efficient organization of work allowed to deal with all unexpected technical failures.
The Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge was the grand finale of the Solar Sport One World Championship, which began on 11 May 2018 in Akkrum, Netherlands. Then, during the three weekends immediately preceding their trip to Monaco, the team had the opportunity to test the possibilities of the fairy tale in the Dutch channels in Purmerend, Groningen and Leeuwarden. The most important stage of this part was the several-hour-long, demanding endurance races, which were held over distances of up to about 50 kilometres.
Egger was keen to engage in such an interesting and innovative project with MDFs that were used in the design of the new improved boat. That is why we are very pleased with the huge success of the AGH University of Science and Technology students project.
