The visit of Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Jarosław Gowin in EGGER Biskupiec factory
On the 30th of May 2019, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin visited one of the three largest foreign investments currently underway in Poland - the furniture panels factory of the EGGER Group in Biskupiec, in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. The factory will soon start production. The worth of the investment amounts over PLN 1.5 billion and established about 400 direct and 600 indirect working places. Thanks to this investment, a key branch of the Polish economy, i.e. the Polish furniture industry (which generates approx. 2.8% of GDP), will gain a stable, local source of supply of innovative and high quality raw materials, while limiting imports of this type of materials from neighbouring markets, which is crucial for improvement of the trade balance and continuing the growth on foreign markets.
Michael Egger, co-owner of the company, together with Thomas Leissing, member of the EGGER Group Management Board and Waldemar Zawiślak, plant manager, were honoured to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin, accompanied by Michał Wypij, advisor in the office of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Vice President of the Warmia and Mazury Special Economic Zone, Marcin Czyża.
During the plant tour, guests had the opportunity to see the application of high quality technologies and innovations and pro-ecological solutions (including low-emission, electric machines or transport trolleys and energy-efficient lighting of buildings) - in this respect, the factory is an inspiring example of cooperation between science and business, which is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Guests also had the opportunity to meet some of the employed and trained staff of nearly 400 people.
